    Islamabad :

    The 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships moved into the finals phase after arduous and effortful tennis playing activity at PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad.

    In the first semifinal top seed Muhammad Shoaib will vie for the top honor in the Men’s Singles final of 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships, after winning his semifinals against Muzammil Murtaza with a score line 6-1 6-0, whereas second semi-final will be played tomorrow (Saturday) 6th January-2024 at 10:00 AM between Aqeel Khan and Mudassar Murtaza.

    In the Ladies’ Singles event, unseeded Natalia Zaman from Karachi caused a major upset when she eliminated 4th seed Soha Ali in a thrilling three-set match 6-1 4-6 6-4 and moved to the semi-final to face top seed Sarah Mahboob Khan who conveniently won her encounter against Marrukh Sajid 6-0 6-1. Whereas Amna Ali Qayum beat Kainat Ali 6-0 6-0 and Sheeza Sajid won her match against Lalarukh Sajid 7-6(5) 6-4.

    The best encounter of the day was played between Hamid Israr Khan and M. Hamza Aasim in the Junior 18&Under category. Top seed Hamid Israr struggled hard to win his match against talented upcoming youngster M.Hamza Aasim of Islamabad. In the first set, Both the players exhibited excellent game by hitting cross-court and down-the-line shots till the score reached 6 games all. The set was decided in the tiebreak, in which Hamid Israr changed the game plan and comfortably won the tiebreak 7-1. The second set was again marked in the same style and both the players demonstrated the high standard of the game of tennis. Hamid again changed the pace and strategy of the game plan, and managed to break the 9th game of Hamza to build up the winning lead 5-4 and kept the same pressure in the 10th game by hitting some excellent cross-court shots and won the match and set at 6-4, and qualified for the Final. The match lasted 1 hrs 40 minutes.

    The second semi-final of Junior 18&U was played between Hamza Roman and Ahmad Nael Qureshi in which Hamza Roman faced some resistance to win his encounter in a straight set 7-5 6-4.

    Islamabad 4th January 2024:

    The 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships stimulated tennis activity at the hard courts of PTF-SDA Tennis Complex, Islamabad during the course of the quarter-finals.

    6th Seed Mudassar Murtaza upset 4th Seed Muhammad Abid (WAPDA) in a thrilling three-set match with a score line 5-7, 6-2 6-2 whereas top seed Muhammad Shaoib struggle hard to win his encounter against talented Yousaf Khalil in an exciting three set match 7-5 5-7 6-2.

    3rd seed Muzammil Murtaza faced tough resistance from 8th seed Barkatullah to qualify for the semi-final in a straight-set quarter-final match 7-6(2) 6-4.

    2nd seed Aqeel Khan conveniently won his encounter against upcoming proficient Ahmad Nael Qureshi 6-2 6-4. In the second set which was marked with aces and long rallies and the score went up to 4 all as both players held their respective serves, Aqeel broke the 9th game of talented Qureshi by hitting some winners down the line and forcing out the youngster in 6-4 by holding the 10th game.

    The semi-finals will be batted out between Aqeel Khan Vs Mudassar Murtaza on Friday 5th January 2024 and Muhammad Shoaib Vs Muzammil Murtaza on Saturday 6th January 2024.

    In the Junior 18 & under category 5th Seed Muhammad Hamza Aasim, the upcoming proficient from Islamabad caused a major upset during the course of his quarter-final encounter with 3rd Seed M. Salaar Khan. In pursuit of his victory, he added his foot speed and topspin to make him a force to be reckoned with. M. Hamza Aasim managed to oust the 3rd seed 6-2, 6-3.

    The top seed Hamid Israr, 2nd Seed Hamza Roman and 4th seed Ahmad Nael Qureshi comfortably won their matches and moved to semi finals.

    Islamabad:

    Hamza Roman, Amir Mazari, Kamran Khan, M.Haziq Aasim, Talha Khan, Hamza Hussain, M.Zaryab Khan, and Kashan Tariq qualified for the main draw of men’s singles by winning their respective matches on the opening day of 36th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2024, at S. Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad.

    A total number of 43 matches were decided on the qualifying day. The main draw matches will be played tomorrow at 9:30 AM. 20 players were accepted directly into the main draw as per PTF National Ranking whereas 4 Wild Card and 8 qualifiers completed the draw of 32. The Draw of Men’s Singles and Boys U-18 Singles and Ladies Singles were taken out by Muhammad Arif Qureshi, ITF White Badge Referee in the presence of the players.

    According to the Men’s Singles draw top eight seeds are Muhammad Shoaib (PAF), Aqeel Khan (WAPDA), Muzammil Murtaza, Muhammad Abid (WAPDA), Yousaf Khalil, Mudassar Murtaza, Abdullah Adnan, and Barkat Ullah

    Lahore: Pakistan Football Federation with assistance from FIFA, conducted a five-day Member Associations Elite Refereeing Course 2023 at Football House, Lahore.

    The course, featuring 30 referees from various regions nationwide, commenced on December 26, 2023, and reached its conclusion today in Lahore.

    Mohammad Rodzali, a FIFA Referee Development Officer and Khalidi Bin Supian, a Physical Fitness Instructor from Malaysia dedicated five days to sharing their expertise with a group of 30 male and female referees and instructors. By engaging in theoretical and practical discussions, they facilitated a comprehensive learning experience for the referees.

    In the closing ceremony, after distributing the certificates among participants Member Pakistan Football Federation Normalisation Committee Muhammad Shahid Niaz Khokhar, said: “I would like to thank Mr Rodzali who came here to teach referees new things according to FIFA and AFC standards. He extended his best wishes to all the participants who not only acquired new knowledge but would also pass it on and officiate in future matches and reinforced the commitment to improving the refereeing landscape in Pakistan. We want them to always be on top of the game and never doubt themselves,” he added.
